World Superbikes win for Laverty

Eugene Laverty had a day to remember as the World Superbike season got underway in Australia on Sunday morning.

Laverty, who rides for the Aprillia team, finished second in race one at Phillip Island behind team-mate Sylvain Guintoli.

He then went one better in race two, beating the Frenchman to take the chequered flag and secure a double one-two for his team.

The result leaves the Toomebridge rider in a tie for first place on 45 points, ahead of the next round of racing at Aragon in Spain on 14 April.
