Wingers Michael Allen and Craig Gilroy scored tries at Ravenhill as Mark Anscombe's side earned a hard-fought victory over their Scottish opponents.
Anscombe's youthful selection - the coach was missing a raft of frontline players - showed great maturity to see off a much more experienced Scottish side who also had new coach Gregor Townsend at the helm for his first competitive start.
Allen ran in on the left with a try just before half time, before Gilroy added another early in the second half as Glasgow tried to respond.
Former Ulster player Tommy Seymour scored a try in the 68th minute for Glasgow but Niall O'Connor settled the nerves with a penalty late on.
The sides will face each other again in the Heineken Cup on 19 October.
