Glentoran II sprung a surprise on Christmas morning when they defeated Championship leaders Ards 3-0 to lift the Steel & Sons Cup at Seaview.

Most pundits made Ards the pre-match favourites but they rarely showed the kind of form that has made them promotion candidates.

The 'wee Glens' took a first half lead when Richard Gibson, who has plenty of Irish League experience, headed home a cross from Kevin Braden.

Newtownards-based Glens player Steven Gordon Gibson made it 2-0 after the break and Gibson wrapped things up with a third goal.

"We unanimously agreed on David Moyes, I've admired his work for a long time and approached him as far back as 1998 to discuss the position of assistant manager.
