The Ireland prop replaces Paddy McAllister in coach Brian McLaughlin's only change from last week's 31-10 victory against the Italians at Ravenhill.

Stephen Ferris, who has been in impressive form, is joined in the back row by Chris Henry and Pedrie Wannenburg.

McLaughlin meanwhile has named an unchanged backline, with injury doubt Nevin Spence declared fit to play in the centre alongside Darren Cave.

Two points separate the top three teams in Pool 4, with Ulster just one point behind group leaders Clermont Auvergne.

A bonus point win at the Stadio Brianteo would set them up well for the final two group games in the New Year.

Ulster face Aironi on Saturday at the Stadio Brianteo Monza (Kick-off 1.30pm GMT)

Ulster: (15-9) A D'Arcy; A Trimble, D Cave, N Spence, C Gilroy; I Humphreys, R Pienaar; (1-8) T Court, R Best, J Afoa, J Muller (capt), D Tuohy, S Ferris, C Henry, P Wannenburg.
Replacements: (16-23) N Brady, P McAllister, A Macklin, T Barker, R Diack, P Marshall, P Jackson, S Terblanche.
