Tyrone powered to a big win over Roscommon at Croke Park to set up an All-Ireland quarter-final clash with Dublin next weekend.

Sean Cavanagh's spectacular return to form was the catalyst for a Red Hand display which has shortened their odds for the Sam Maguire Cup.

Cavanagh hit a 2-3 tally in a man of the match display, with Mark Donnelly also hitting the net for the Red Hands.

Donie Shine was a thorn in the side of the Tyrone defence in the opening stages, hitting three points to give the Rossies a huge boost.

But Kyle Coney's second score levelled the game for the fourth time midway through the first half.

Senan Kilbride regained the lead for the men from the west, and they stunned their opponents with a superb Karol Mannion goal on 27 minutes. He blasted to the top corner of the neat after Pascal McConnell had elected to punch clear from Cregg's delivery.

The Red Hands responded instantly, with a Sean Cavanagh goal inside a minute. Coney and Peter Harte combined in the build-up, before the Moy man sliced through the Roscommon defence to plant the ball in the bottom corner of the net.

Cavanagh brought his tally to 1-3 to send Tyrone in with a 1-9 to 1-8 interval advantage, and they stepped up the tempo and moved five points clear with five scores in as many minutes, with Brian McGuigan, Mark Donnelly, Peter Harte and wing backs Philip Jordan and Sean O'Neill all finding the range.

Roscommon refused to buckle, and Shine and Mannion found the target, before Kilbride narrowed the gap to two points from a free.

Roscommon had hit nine wides in the first half, and once again, poor finishing let them down as they continued to chase the game

Tyrone tightened their grip with a firted point from Colm Cavanagh and a sweetly struck Peter Harte free, to lead by four as the game entered its final 10 minutes.

And they finished Roscommon off with a devastating burst, Cavanagh drilling home his second goal before Donnelly also found the net in the final minute.
