The Portadown driver, who is driving a Chevrolet Cruze for the West Surrey Racing team under the Aviva-Cofco banner, had led the first practice session, but eventually dropped back to fifth position.

Swiss driver Alain Menu is on pole for the third consecutive race, ahead of Chevrolet team-mate Yvan Muller.

Race one is due to get underway early on Sunday morning.
