He wasn't selected in the provisional squad because of an injury, but after playing and scoring for West Brom on Monday, Trapattoni has included the striker.
His relationship with the Italian manager has been strained in recent months. Trapattoni described his behaviour as "idiotic" after Long claimed he was fit for a match that the manager withdrew him from.
Stephen Kelly, another player that is said to have a turbulent relationship with the coaches, has been named in the squad. Rumours circulated that the Fulham player had a 'bust-up' with coach Marco Tardelli after the 6-1 thrashing from Germany in October.
Meanwhile LA Galaxy striker Robbie Keane has not been named in the squad.
Sean St Ledger, Richard Dunne and Marc Wilson are all out due to injury.
Trapattoni has placed four men on standby including: Shane Duffy, Andy Keogh, Conor Clifford and Damien Delaney.
