Szwez scored 3 goals and added 2 assists to cap off an amazing weekend for the newest Giant.
Szwez's five point game on Sunday added to the 2 goals and one assist he had on Saturday against the Cardiff Devils, giving him 5 goals and 8 points in two games this weekend.
Other goal scorers on Sunday Night were Craig Peacock with two, Colin Shields, Mike Jacobsen and Brandon Benedict, as the Giants routed the Vipers in front of an astonished crowd at Telewest Arena in Newcastle.
Stephen Murphy returned to action in style leading the Giants to two huge wins beating the Cardiff Devils 3-1 on Saturday Night and shutting out the Newcastle Vipers 8-0 on Sunday.
Sunday was Murphy's third shut-out of the season so far and the win allowed the Giants to jump up two spots in the Elite League standings, just two points behind the Coventry Blaze and four points behind the Nottingham Panthers, whom the Giants play twice this weekend, with a chance to move into top spot in the league if they can win both games.
Coach Steve Thornton believes that with Murphy in net, the LBM Giants can go all the way this year.
"He's the best goalie in the league right now," said coach Steve Thornton after Sunday Night's performance. "He gives us the confidence that when mistakes are made, he will be there to make the big saves, something he did all weekend long."
Murphy stopped all 23 shots he faced on Sunday in Newcastle and 29 of the 30 from the Devils on Saturday at the Odyssey Arena. He now has the lowest goals against average in the league, 2.14 goals allowed per game. He is also stopping an amazing 93% of the shots he is facing.
