Manager James McCartan started his tenure as Down Manager with a comprehensive win over Queens in the Dr McKenna Cup.

Marty Clarke spearheaded the Down attack racking up no less than 1-6 as Down romped home at Pairc Esler, in a 12 point win over Queen's.

A half time lead of 0-9 to 0-6 was soon extended by Clarke as he slotted home from the spot to add to his five frees.

Double All Ireland winner James McCartan was delighted with his side's performance in front of a crowd of nearly 3,000. Next up for Down is Antrim at Pairc Esler again.

Despite going behind to Armagh thanks to Brian McCone's first half goal, UUJ hit back with six unanswered points.

In another close game Donegal got the better of Cavan at Breffni Park.

Cavan took a single point lead into the second half, but Donegal changed the way of the game with two quick points.
