The world number six carded a second round 77 at the event hosted by Tiger Woods to leave him on six over for the tournament.

The result left the Holywood man in joint 16th in the 18-strong field.

The Northern Irishman struggled all day, with a double bogey at the fourth and further dropped shots at the eighth, 12th, 13th and 14th, but the low point came with a quadruple bogey at the 16th.

However, Graeme McDowell carded a superb 67 on his second round.

McDowell, who won on the course in 2010, got off to a great start with birdies on his opening two holes and bounced back from a bogey on the fourth with another birdie on the fifth.

He dropped another shot on the eighth, but a birdie on the 11th hole put him back in contention for the lead before dropping further shots on the 12th and 14th.

The Portrush man goes into the third round on five under for the tournament, six shots behind leader Tiger Woods.
