Padraig Harrington was rumoured to earn 400,000 euro a year from Bank of Ireland
Ireland's three time major winner Padraig Harrington has been dropped by sponsors, Bank of Ireland.

The move comes as their three year deal is set to expire in May with the bank claiming that the poor economic climate makes it unrealistic to stay involved.

The Dubliner is believed to receive in the region of 400,000 euro a year plus bonuses, with the bank hoping to use the money to help cut costs.

The sponsorship deal with Harrington was agreed in May 2007 and covered a period when the Dubliner scaled the heights in golf, winning three major titles, the British Open twice and the USPGA and rose to number three in the world rankings.

Under the terms of the deal, Harrington, who is currently ranked 10th in the world, wears the Bank of Ireland logo on his shirt and also takes part in three corporate golf outings per year for the financial institution.

Bank of Ireland's focus will now be on rugby following their decision to sever links with Harrington.
