Rea pipped to Misano qualifying post

Co Antrim man Jonathan Rea narrowly missed out on pole position in San Marino, after being edged out by defending World Superbike champion Carlos Checa in the first qualifying session at Misano Adriatico on Friday.

Honda rider Rea clocked a time that was just 0.047 secs behind Checa's 1 min 36.521 secs on the Althea Ducati.
Third place fell to Max Biaggi, closely followed by Marco Melandri in fourth.
Toomebridge's Eugene Laverty finished 13th in the qualifying session, in a time of 1 min 37.340 secs.
His teammate Biaggi goes into this weekend's race still out in front in the standings on 160.5 points, while Rea is fourth on 141 and Laverty eighth on 86.
