It was Rea's second outing in the series after he was invited to race for the Repsol Honda team in the absence of the injured Australian rider Casey Stoner.
The Ballyclare man had the satisfaction of finishing ahead of the legendary Italian rider Valentino Rossi.
The race was won by Rea's Repsol team mate Dani Pedrosa of Spain.
Rea will now turn his attention to the remainder of the world superbikes season after completing his two races in the Moto GP.
