Graeme McDowell returned to Portrush on Friday to unveil a new roadside sign dedicated to him and his triumph in the 2010 US Open.
The sign, which is fitted at the Bushmills entrance to Portrush, reads 'Home of the US Open Champion, Graeme McDowell; Pebble Beach 2010'.
It is set up just a few hundred yards from the fairways of Rathmore Golf Club, where the home-town hero perfected the skills that set him up as a world class golfer.
A further two signs carrying the message will be positioned on the approach to Portrush from Coleraine, Bushmills and Portstewart in the coming months.
Speaking at the unveiling, Greame McDowell said: "As a proud Portrush man, this is a huge honour and I am genuinely humbled by the level of recognition I have received in recent weeks.
"It is always a pleasure to be back at home and I am delighted to be here today to unveil the new signage.
"The amount of support I have been given since my win, especially from the local community, has been totally overwhelming."
The Coleraine Borough council are hoping that Greame's historic win will enhance tourism across the north coast.
It intends the sign to convey the message to visitors that the town is a top golfing venue, and home to a golfing champion.
"Graeme was the first European in forty years to win the US Open, one of Golf's four Majors," said Norman Hillis, Mayor of Coleraine at the unveiling.
"He is also the only Northern Irish man to ever win this championship and Coleraine Borough Council is proud to mark this historic occasion."
A civic reception was also held in June at Portrush Town Hall in June to honour Greame McDowell's historic victory.
Portrush schoolchildren and representatives from golf clubs throughout the Borough packed into the venue to welcome the 2010 US Open Champion home.
"I am extremely proud to be from this area," Greame continued.
"I will do my best to continue to be an ambassador for Portrush and the north coast around the world."
