Eugene Laverty and Jonathan Rea both claimed podium finishes in the final round of the World Superbike Championships in Portugal on Sunday.

Rea was third in Race One behind champion Carlos Checa and Ducati rider Sylvain Guintoli, while Laverty ended in 19th after suffering steering problems.

The Toomebridge rider fared better in Race Two, securing second place behind team-mate Marco Melhandri for a Yamaha 1-2, with Rea again finishing third.

It was Laverty's last race for the Yamaha team, after announcing on Sunday that he will join Aprilia for the new season.

He has signed a deal tying him to the team for the 2012 and 2013 seasons, and is expected to begin testing the Aprilia machine on Tuesday.
