Sniper Jon Pelle gave a man of the match performance in his first league outing for the Belfast Giants as the team defeated the Cardiff Devils on Saturday.

In an end-to-end contest at the Cardiff Bay Ice Rink, the visitors took an early lead as former Devils player Pelle fired past Stevie Lyle to tally his first of the season.

Brad Voth brought the sides level before the end of the first period, before Pelle netted again in the second - but the lead was momentary as Scott Dobben struck to make it 2-2.

Darryl Lloyd was denied a goal scoring opportunity and awarded a penalty shot, but a save from Lyle turned away the Giants forward and the scores remained tied.

Jeff Mason fired home on the powerplay to make it 3-2 before Pelle bagged his hat-trick to make it 4-2 after 40 minutes of play.

In the final 20 minutes the Giants struck twice more to cushion their advantage, with Pelle turning provider for Derek LeBlanc and Adam Keefe rounding off the scoring at 47:53.

The Giants return to the Odyssey this weekend after three weeks on the road, with games on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 October.
