He had been suffering from a chest infection and missed the Scotland game but has returned to fitness in time to be included in Joe Schmidt's side for Saturday.
Meanwhile stalwart centre Gordon D'Arcy is also coming back after a stomach bug.
Ulster lock Dan Tuohy will replace club-mate Iain Henderson on the bench in the only other change from the 23 fielded in last week's 28-6 victory at the Aviva Stadium.
Ireland are sitting top of the Six Nations table following that performance, which saw tries from Rob Kearney, Andrew Trimble and Jamie Heaslip and three Johnny Sexton penalties.
