Northern Irish swimmer Melanie Nocher has been knocked out of the European Championships in Budapest.

Nocher had made steady progress through the heats, qualifying in eighth place in the 200m backstroke to secure her place in the semi-finals.

However, posting a time of 2:13.32 mins in the semi-final round left her out of competition.

After the two rounds of the semi-final were complete, Melanie, who had set a new record at the Irish championships only two weeks ago, was left in 13th place overall.
