Brian Norton, 26 and from Ahoghill outside Ballymena, has moved to Tampa, Florida to work for WWE Developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling after signing a five-year deal.
The 7-foot tall former traffic warden, who is better known on the UK and Ireland wrestling scene as "Tron", will be known in FCW as "The Northern Irish Nightmare Jason Mullen".
The WWE developmental programme has spawned such stars as former WWE Champions John Cena, Randy Orton, Jack Swagger and Sheamus.
WWE officials will monitor his progress during the course of his contract and, if all goes well, the former Ballymena Academy pupil could move up the ranks and onto the organisation's flagship programmes, WWE Raw and WWE Smackdown.
Norton began his wrestling career in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and has wrestled across the UK and Ireland, as well as in Germany and Austria.
He was also one of the founders of Pro Wrestling Ulster, a Belfast-based wrestling promotion which also trains young people with an interest in getting into the wrestling industry.
"It's what he has always wanted to do," Norton's father Malachy told UTV.
"He has got the opportunity, he has shown a lot of grit to get himself there so we hope it works out for him".
Great to see a wrestler from NI get a shot at the bigtime. No guarantees, but definitely a step in the right direction.

Malachy also gave an insight into how his son first became involved in the wrestling business, and spoke about his determination to succeed.
"I think it was when he was at university in Newcastle (upon Tyne) that he really caught the bug for wrestling - probably to the detriment of his studies.
"But he followed it up, and when he came back from university he became involved with PWU."
"It's up to him now, he's on the ladder.
"He has lost seven stones in the past year or so, which shows you his determination, and hopefully that determination can help carry him through the ranks of the WWE as well."
Norton's former Pro Wrestling Ulster colleagues are equally delighted that one of their own has earned a shot at the big-time.
"It's everyone's dream, it's why we do it," said PWU co-founder Daniel "JDP" Patton.
"The big man got his shot, he got his try-out and now he's signed - it's brilliant.
"He's a good friend, I still keep in touch with him and he's doing well and enjoying it - I wish him all the best."
His sentiments were echoed by fellow senior PWU official Andrew Hunter.
"To have one of your friends, one of your peers (sign for WWE) is amazing.
"There's a saying from a small child at one of our shows which was caught on video 'Tron - you're the best', and as far as that goes, it's true.
"He has got the opportunity to go over there and he should grab it with both hands.
"It gives great inspiration to the young guys here that if you work hard there are rewards out there - you can follow your dreams."
