Northern Ireland will play their first game since David Healy announced his retirement in Cyprus, with a friendly booked for 5 March at the GSP Stadium in Nicosia.

Manager Michael O'Neill has previously led the international side to a 1-nil win over Russia and a 1-1 draw away to Portugal, but he is still seeking a win in a friendly match.

He'll be hoping that will change when they face Cyprus, who trail Northern Ireland by 35 places in the FIFA world rankings.

Meanwhile, retired striker David Healy is continuing to make the transition from playing to coaching.

The 34-year-old has been assisting Northern Ireland Under 21s manager Stephen Robinson, as a coach for the Victory Shield squad.

"Stephen has asked me would I assist, not only to help select the players, but having a look at them and giving him a little bit of my opinion on players - what are missing from players ..." he told UTV.

"Different coaches see different things."

Healy made his way through the ranks at Northern Ireland, scoring one of his first goals at the Milk Cup and continuing to find the back of the net at senior level, becoming the side's top goalscorer.

Now he would love to see the next generation of home-grown talent follow in his footsteps.

"I would love one of these kids to get through," Healy said.

"Nothing would give me greater pleasure than seeing one of these kids now at 15, 16; watching him progress through the 18-19 and onto the big stage.

"And in 10-12 years time, I could say I remember when he was 14-15 - hopefully a bit of advice that we passed on was a big benefit to him for him to go on and be the player that he is."
