The IFA have decided to break with tradition and may move next year's Euro 2012 from the traditional Saturday fixtures to Friday.
The change comes directly from a FIFA directive, which will see Wednesday Internationals moved to Tuesdays.
The IFA are said to be in agreement with Nigel Worthington, who is hoping to have Saturday matches shifted to Fridays in order to give his players time to recover from International double headers.
It is not known how the changes would affect any television deals that the IFA have to show Northern Ireland games.
