Rory McIroy and Graeme McDowell have been beaten by the United States in the World Cup golf in China.

Despite being the overnight leaders with 21-under, Americans Matt Kuchar and Gary Woodland finished on 24-under, to clinch the title.

They could only produce an even-par 72 as they missed out on the last day for the second consecutive time after finishing runners-up to Italy in 2009.

McIlroy and McDowell finished in a tie for fourth place, along with Scotland, Australia and the Netherlands.

England finished joint second with Germany, on 22-under.

Re s magowan,No one is debating where the 3 lads are from. But like it or lump it they represent the 32 counties of Ireland in the world cup of golf. You ever stop and take off your bigoted specs and tell us all why there is no team representing N Ireland in the world cup of golf.,Think about it.Please also explain to me what a 9 county Republican flag is ?

Any tournaments i have watched on tv Rory Graham and Darren all play as Northern Ireland players and the Ulster Flag(not the republican 9 county flag) is shown as the flag of the Country they come from. The Gui is based in the ROI and therefore foreign

Oh dear, what a pathetic post from J.Ulster is not a country J You can not fly a provincal flag when you represent your country.Rory G Mc and all Ulster players represent Ireland and play under the GUI.Get into the real world and accept that players from Ulster represent Ireland.

@ J . I have never read such a load of tripe in my life ! Rory and Graham would have some laugh at you ! P.S N.Ireland is not a "true nation" it is a state and golf in all parts of Ireland is Represented by G.U.I ( golfing union of Ireland)!

Well played, for the first 3 days you were untouchable. I just feel that, not representing your true nation (northern ireland) told and the awkwardness told on the final day. It was almost embarrassment that you would potentially win and not have any affiliation with the place you represented. Completely understandable on your part guys, but well played anyhows. Had they have let you fly the Ulster flag I honestly don't think the rest would have had a prayer on the final day......
