A medical scan after the game revealed that the South African had ruptured ligaments around his thumb.
Muller had surgery on the injury on Sunday and Ulster Rugby estimate he will be sidelined for up to two months - that means he will miss the Heineken Cup double-header with Northampton.
His current contract with the Province runs until the summer of 2013.
