Irish-born Eoin Morgan will captain England in Thursday's One Day International against Ireland in Dublin, the England and Wales Cricket Board have confirmed.

Morgan, 24, played 23 ODI's for the country of his birth between 2003 and 2008, scoring more than 700 runs.

He made his test debut for England in May 2010, and scored a century in England's third Test victory over India earlier this month.

The Dubliner heads up an experimental England side without the likes of Alastair Cook and other first-choice names for the one-off match in his native city.

England coach Andy Flower also misses having been granted a well-earned rest by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Jonathan Trott and Steven Finn are among the more prominent names in the line-up but there was no recall for Stuart Broad, who was left out against Sri Lanka in July but who can be expected to be selected against India following his return to form in Test action.

Batsmen Kevin Pietersen and Ian Bell will be rested, as will bowlers Graeme Swann and James Anderson.
