Monaghan have beaten Armagh in the first-round qualifiers in the GAA All-Ireland Football Championship.

At the end of normal time the sides were level at 0-10 a piece despite Monaghan displaying a superior degree of skill in the second half.

The Orchard county were down to 14 men after Steven McDonnell received a straight red card with four minutes to play following a clash with Dessie Mone.

Seamus McEnaney's men scored just once from play since the 14th minute, but McManus and Finlay's impressive efforts were enough to edge them back in front in the 82nd minute.

Other round one results:

Down 1-16 1-7 London

Wicklow 0-17 1-11 Fermanagh

Donegal 2-13 1-6 Carlow
