Rory McIlroy missed out on the chance to win the USPGA Championship on Sunday and record his first 'major' success.
The 21 year-old from Holywood needed a birdie at the last hole to have a chance of a play -off but he missed the opportunity as he finished with a level par round of 72.
McIlroy had been in contention to win as the Championship reached a thrilling climax in Wisconsin.
The 21 year-old from Holywood was just one shot off the lead, at 11 under par for the tournament, after 15 holes.
But McIlroy was left rueing a great chance to share the lead which he had done shortly beforehand.
He birdied the 14th to move into the joint leadership but three-putted the next for a bogey as his short game continued to prove to be his achilles heel.
Darren Clarke finished with a round of 73 to end up one over par as the tournament went into a play-off to decide the winner.
