Holywood golfer Rory McIlroy is propping up the 12-man field on five over at the halfway stage of the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa.
McIlroy admitted at the start of the week he was feeling "run down" after a hectic end to the season and did well to salvage a 76 after playing his first eight holes on Friday in seven over.
He arrived at Sun City with "jelly legs" and flu-like symptoms and was reported to have been put on a drip during a thunderstorm delay on Thursday.
"I've been on the go for nine weeks now and I think it's beginning to take its toll", he said.
"After this week I'll be going back home to Ireland and I'm really looking forward to spending time in my house, seeing my family and friends and not having to think about golf for a while."
Retief Goosen claimed a one-shot lead after winning a car for an eagle on the 17th on the opening round.
He added a 68 to his opening 69 at Sun City for a seven-under-par halfway total of 137.
The double US Open champion carded six birdies and two bogeys to edge ahead of defending champion Henrik Stenson, Masters champion Angel Cabrera and overnight leader Robert Allenby.
