The Portrush golfer shot a flawless 67 on Friday to add to his opening round 66 as he moved to 11-under at the halfway point in Doral, Florida.

McDowell notched up five birdies and looked in top form as he set the clubhouse target at the £5.8m event, finishing one shot ahead of Phil Mickelson.

But it was Woods who led the way after two rounds, finishing 13-under and looking on track for a seventh win at the event and 17th WGC title of his career.

"It looks like Tiger has got the eye in round here and he is always exciting when he is playing well," McDowell told Sky Sports after finishing.

"But I am very happy with my performance over the first two days. I'm feeling really good on these greens and positioned it well off the tee which you have to do on the course."

Meanwhile world number one Rory McIlroy, who is playing in his first competition since his controversial walk-off last week, still looked to be struggling for form.

He played a round of 69 but finished well off the pace on 2-under.
