McDowell begins French Open defence

Graeme McDowell began his defence of the French Open with a one under par first round of 70.

The Portrush man hit three birdies and two bogeys in Paris on Thursday.

It leaves him six shots off the lead held by Kevin Stadler of America, who finished on 64.

Meanwhile fellow Northern Ireland golfers Michael Hoey and Gareth Maybin were two over.
