Jockey Tony McCoy has been banned for five days after breaching new controversial whip regulations on Sunday.

He was accused of whipping Caddie Master once more than the eight time limit for a hurdle race as the horse finished second at Ffos Las in Wales.

The Moneyglass rider has been suspended from 20-24 November.

"I gave him a flick after the third-last and obviously I forgot about it, but it was literally a flick and that counts as a smack now," the champion jump jockey said.

The new rules came into force a month ago and have been criticised by a number of high-profile jockeys.

Former Grand National winner Ruby Walsh was given a five day ban at Aintree in October and had an appeal dismissed on Thursday.

Both Walsh and McCoy face a 10 day suspension if they commit the offence for a second time.
