The Ballyclare man is the only golfer from Northern Ireland still involved in the tournament, after Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell and Michael Hoey all failed to make the cut.
Starting the day on 4-under, Maybin got off to the best possible start with a birdie at the second, but that was quickly followed by bogey at the par four third, and three more shots were dropped on the final three holes on the front nine.
Maybin recovered somewhat after a further bogey at the tenth as he picked up shots at 11 and 12, but he closed out the round with another three bogeys and a birdie to leave him in a tie for 25th place on even par heading into Sunday.
Luke Donald leads the field on 11-under, and looks set to replace McIlroy as World number one when the latest rankings are published on Monday.
