The Giants did secure vital league points with their victory on Thursday night, but it came at a price.
They opened their goal account 25 minutes in with a penalty from Kevin Saurette, but barely three minutes later Keefe was ejected from the game.
His penalty carries an automatic three-match ban and will now be reviewed by the Elite League's Head of Discipline Moray Hanson.
The Devils also went a man down when Rupert Quiney left the bench and earned himself a game misconduct.
Just after the 35-minute mark, Szwez doubled his side's lead though with a powerplay goal.
While the Devils pulled a goal back in the last 10 minutes, they were unable to secure a second to take the game into overtime.
The result puts the Giants three-for-three for the season against Cardiff, while their current five-game winning streak keeps them top of the league.
The Belfast side are next in action in Sheffield on Sunday against the Steelers.
