Lurgan College win girls hockey cup

Lurgan College lifted the senior girls Hockey Cup for the second time in three years after a 1-0 win over Victoria College in Wednesday's final at Lisnagarvey.

It was a more convincing win than the score line suggests as Lurgan had the bulk of the possession winning the penalty corner count 9-0.

But they found the Victoria defence in outstanding form as goalkeeper Azka Yousef pulled off a string of great saves while sweeper Sophie Pollock was named player-of-the-match.

Yousef brought off good stops from Hannah Grieve and Bethany Barr in the first half which ended scoreless.

Six minutes after the restart Barr's effort was deflected onto the crossbar by Rachel Hanley and then Megan Hanley made a superb goal line clearance to deny Lurgan from another set piece.

But the pressure eventually paid off in the 51st minute when Chloe McCann found substitute Gemma McKittrick with a pin point pass and she fired the ball home for the winner.
