David Jeffrey's side went ahead on 20 minutes, courtesy of Peter Thompson's header, and on the half hour mark it was two, Johnny Black firing home.
Michael Carvill made the tie safe from Mark McAllister's lay-off before Brian McCaul was left with a simple tap-in to make it 4-0.
McCaul headed home again as the Blues went goal crazy in the first half.
The second half was a little more sedate, with just one more goal - coming in the 83rd minute - substitute Gary Brown volleying in a superb goal.
Cliftonville came from behind to defeat Portadown 3-1, despite the Ports leading against the Danske Bank Premiership leaders for most of the game after Chris Ramsey's close-range, second minute header.
However Ronnie McFall's side collapsed in the final 20 minutes when substitute Joe Gormley levelled things up with a well-taken goal.
Liam Boyce then fended off a Shamrock Park defender before finding the room to score and make it 2-1.
And Cliftonville's win was assured when substitute Diarmuid O'Carroll made sure with a late goal.
Cup holders Crusaders defence continued with a 3-1 Seaview win over Lisburn Distillery.
The Crues took a 12th minute leader when winger Paul Heatley fired past Whites goalkeeper Billy Brennan.
Stephen Baxter's side had numerous chances to add to the scoresheet, but they did make it 2-0 just past the hour mark when Timmy Adamson scored from Heatley's ball.
Declan Caddell headed home a third from close-range and Distillery scored a late Jordan Hughes consolation.
Meanwhile, Glenavon knocked Glentoran out 2-1 with Andy McGrory scored the Lurgan Blues opener 10 minutes in, after Kris Lindsay had headed down Marc Brown's ball.
Glenavon made it two when Guy Bates set up a simple finish for McGrory and Glentoran made a fist of things when Jimmy Callacher scored a header, but they could not find the leveller.
