Linfield's Daryl Fordyce scored the second of the side's three goals against his former club Glentoran as the Big Two met at The Oval.
After three minutes Jimmy Callacher evened the score for the Glens but seconds later Peter Thompson put the ball past Glentoran's keeper to put the home side up three goals to two in the 89th minute.
Linfield manager David Jeffrey was "overjoyed" with the result, but said it took a massive turnaround in the second half.
"At half time I couldn't see us getting that result unless we changed things immeasurably," he told UTV.
"The first half we conceded 12 corners, crosses coming in left, right and centre, no cohesion and we gave the ball away. I was most unhappy.
"Second half I thought we were excellent and much more threatening.
"We had this massive rush of character, spirit and desire. Peter showed all sorts of bravery and buried it - it's a fantastic way to win a game of football."
Meanwhile at Suffolk Road, Distillery's Jordan Forsythe scored the only goal in the first half, leaving DC to step up to the mark in the second half with goals from McCann and Paul McVeigh.
Outgoing Hoops manager Stephen Small took to Twitter to congratulate the team, after revealing that he will be leaving the post.
The former Cliftonville player joined the DC backroom team after quitting his job as Carrick Rangers manager earlier this year.
Donegal Celtic are still without a win after nine games in the Danske Bank Premiership.
Linfield and DC will go on to face Ballymena United and Crusaders in the Shield semi-final.
The quarter-final matches were due to be played last week but had been postponed because of water-logged pitches.
