Liam Boyce has opted to return to former club Cliftonville, UTV understands.

The Northern Ireland international is a free agent at the moment having been released by German club Werder Bremen.

A Cliftonville spokesman told UTV that the club was confident a deal would be struck but that negotiations are still ongoing.

Boyce, 20, scored 18 goals in 52 appearances for the Reds before moving to Germany in 2010.

He had been linked with Glentoran after attending their match last weekend and speaking to manager Scott Young.
