In a statement the club said: "Following an initial club investigation and the referee's report Larne FC have decided to suspend Anthony Lagan with immediate effect, pending further enquiries."
"It is our hope that Newry City will take similar action against those players named in the referee's report", Larne FC added.
Pictures appeared to show Lagan aiming kicks at the head of Cullen Feeney while the Newry man lay prone on the ground. (See pictures>>)
In a previous statement, Larne FC "unequivocally" condemned all violence at soccer matches.
Newry City FC, meanwhile, said they were committed to "co-operating fully" with the IFA investigation.
But Newry City General Manager Derek MacEil told UTV:
"I don't believe we will be censoring our players or taking any action because there is very little that shows that it was our players that were the aggressors in this instance".
The PSNI confirmed they are studying all available footage of the violent clashes to determine if any criminal offence has been committed.
The IFA said they will await the submission of match reports before dealing with disciplinary matters.
"There were a lot of ugly scenes on Saturday and I condemn it", IFA president Raymond Kennedy told UTV.
The mass brawl at the Showgrounds erupted following Larne's second dismissal in as many minutes.
The serious fighting between players and coaching staff forced referee Raymond Crangle to abandon the match.
Raymond Crangle told UTV Tonight that the violence was "something I have never witnessed, either as a player... or refereeing in various leagues within Northern Ireland. I have never witnessed violence to that extent."
Mr Crangle, who was forced to leave the pitch before the players, said the scenes provided a poor example for the next generation of potential Irish league footballers.
"Kids do look up to the players that are playing for their local clubs and, unfortunately, they've been let down," he said.
