The Canadian is now in his second season with the Belfast side, after playing a key role in helping them clinch the league title.
Keefe takes on the role after being voted as captain by his teammates and it serves as a promotion from assistant captain last year.
According to the Giants, his no nonsense style of play and willingness to sacrifice everything to win makes him the natural choice to succeed Jeremy Rebek.
Robby Sandrock and Craig Peacock have been named as the assistant captains for the new season, with Noah Clarke also being part of the leadership team that will be focused on the title defence.
"Leadership is one of the most important components to any team," Belfast Giants head coach Doug Christiansen said.
"In a dressing room full of former captains, these four were voted to be their leaders.
Praising each of the four players, he added: "Keefe plays with tremendous passion and intensity and will say what needs to be said and do what it takes to win at all costs."
The new captains will lead the team into their first competitive game on Saturday, when they take on Braehead Clan in Scotland in a Challenge Cup fixture.
