Kearney was beaten on a golden score by her Chinese opponent.

Shugen performed an Ippon in extra time after the five minute contest ended in a draw in London on Saturday morning.

The throw automatically ended the matchup, knocking out 23-year-old Kearney - Ireland's first female judo entrant - in her first fight.

She said: "I performed well, but I am just 23 and this is the start of things to come.

"It was really good experience and I hope to compete in the 2016 Olympics and the ones after that."
