She is taking on Russia's Sofya Ochigava, a 25-year-old former kick-boxing champion.
Taylor won the world championship final between the two earlier in the year, by 11 points to 7, gaining her fourth world title.
But this finale will prove extra special as it is her first attempt for Olympic gold.
Tension is building in the boxer's hometown of Bray, Co Wicklow where 6,000 people packed the streets to see her win a silver medal and 7,000 are expected to watch her go for gold in the final.
She secured her place in the final after beating Mayzuna Chorieva of Tajikistan on Wednesday, 17 points to 9.
If she wins the final bout, she will bring home a gold medal for Ireland in addition to the bronze win in showjumping.
The final starts at 4.45pm on Thursday.
