The Irish side beat France 15-10 at Ashbourne RFC on Friday night, moving up to eight points.

The victory was their fourth straight win.

The women also claimed their maiden Triple Crown last month.

Despite Saturday's declaration, there are still one round of matches to go - but Ireland cannot be caught.

Italy's defeat dashed all hopes of them challenging for the title when they host Ireland in Milan next week.

Ireland now enjoy a four-point lead at the top of the table ahead of France, England and Italy.

They will be hoping to round off the Six Nations spectacularly on St Patrick's Day by defeating Italy in Parabiago.

Ireland's previous best finish in the Women's RBS 6 Nations was third, the position they had finished in for the past four years.
