IFA Chief Executive John Delaney has confirmed the Republic of Ireland will play Brazil in an international friendly next year.
The game is likely to take place in March either in Dublin or in England.
The match, which is seen as a major financial boost for the FAI, could be held at Manchester United's Old Trafford or Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.
Although Croke Park is available for an early March date, it is understood the FAI could save a substantial amount of money if they hold the game in England.
Brazil last visited Ireland in 2008 in a friendly which saw the visitors win 1-0 thanks to Robinho's neatly finished goal.
Speaking at Sunday's RTE sports awards, Delaney also revealed that Fifa had offered the FAI a fair play award, following Thierry Henry's handball controversy.
"We've respectfully declined," he said.
