The Ireland team face Wales, who beat them in New Zealand in the autumn World Cup fixture.

Declan Kidney says his team will be respectful towards Wales.

He said: "I think there is as much chance as there ever is, that would not be to demean any of the other matches and you just look at the history of the matches, we're still doing a little bit of a catch up with Wales.

"Wales had a good World Cup and all credit to them, they beat us fair and square on the day and so what you need to do is, in times past, we've managed to win our few matches.

"You just look forward to this fresh off challenge and try and play to the best of your ability."

Irish Rugby is on the up at the moment with Ulster, Munster and Leinster all making the quarter final stages of the Heineken Cup and Ireland's captain Paul O'Connell feels past provincial success has always used been used as a spring board for the International side.

Paul O'Connell said: "I think it is what a lot of the success of the international side has been built on in recent years.

"The provinces going away from home and winning big games, winning big games at home, winning the high pressure games.

"I think winning is a habit so whatever jersey you have on, it doesn't really make a difference.

"Winning is a habit and hopefully we'll bring that into the national side," he said.

Sunday 8 April has been set as the date for the Heineken Cup quarter final between Ulster and Munster at Thomond Park.

It will be the first meeting between the two clubs in the Heineken Cup.
