McAllister tore his anterior cruciate ligament and lateral collateral ligament in training last week, and will require surgery

The club said the "significant" injury rules the 23-year-old out for a large part of the season.

A statement said: "He will be assessed by a knee specialist early this week which will give a better prognosis for a return to action."

It comes after Ulster beat Bayonne 20-15 last week.

They will take on Leicester Tigers in Ravenhill on Saturday.
