The Belfast Giants are still on the hunt for a replacement for Brock McBride, as they prepare to host the Edinburgh Capitals in another crucial league game on Friday.

The search for a new player is taking longer than expected though, forcing the side to struggle on short-staffed in the meantime.

"Due to the office closings of the International Ice Hockey Federation and the UK Border Agency, it will take longer than ever to get a player into the country," Giants coach Doug Christiansen said.

"We have a few targets in mind that we're working to bring to Belfast - it's important that we sign the right player to replace Brock and we will need to be diligent in our research.

Our squad is extremely diminished at the moment and we will need the fans at the Odyssey to cheer us on!

"The team is going to have to rally together to grind wins out over the holiday period."

Their next challenge comes in the form of the Capitals, who boast the league's lead scorer among their ranks - Rene Jarolin. He's racked up an impressive 24 goals in just 31 games.

"Edinburgh are a much improved team," Christiansen said.

"They are playing excellent hockey right now and have two star players. They'll have more imports that we will and they have a dangerous attacking style.

"We'll need to be better defensively than we were against Dundee and we must take our chances when we get them."

The Giants will again be without the services of suspended Aaron Clarke and injured James Hutchinson and Robert Dowd. Darryl Lloyd may return to action after being out injured for the last two games.
