The Upperlands rider, who was left out of the GB team for the competition's team pursuit event on Thursday, finished second in Sunday's final behind New Zealand's Alison Shanks.

In the non-Olympic three-kilometre event, the 37-year-old qualified second fastest but was unable to overhaul Shanks who took the gold in 3 mins 30.199 sec.

Houvenaghel finished in 3mins 32.340sec, while Ashlee Ankudinoff of Australia claimed bronze.
