Crusaders 1 - 1 Portadown
Both sides created several chances in an entertaining encounter in north Belfast but the cup holders failed to make home advantage count.
Kevin Braniff fired the Ports in front in the 26th minute but three minutes later a glancing header from Jordan Owens levelled the scores.
The Ports will certainly be the happier side after Stephen Baxter's men failed to convert goalscoring opportunities.
The Shore Road men were carved open in the 26th minute when Braniff was left unmarked ten yards from goal to rifle the ball into the net after Jordan Baker's cross eluded defenders.
That goal knocked the cup holders back but they responded swiftly and decisively. Gareth McKeown's deep throw in was met with a superb glancing header from Owens that deceived keeper David Miskelly.
Ross Arthurs headed against a post after the break and Martin Donnelly blasted a shot over the bar as the visitors rode their luck and lived to fight another day.
