Unprecedented high demand for tickets for Crusaders' glamour friendly against Liverpool crashed the system for fans trying to book through Ulster Rugby's website, the club has confirmed.

Tickets for the game at Ravenhill in August went on sale on Monday and Ulster Rugby quickly sold out their allocation, but some customers experienced problems in trying to complete purchases.

"This was due to both the high demand and an issue which occurred at the data centre," Ulster Rugby said in a statement.

"This issue was swiftly addressed yesterday morning by our ticketing partner IRIS Ticketing and access to the IRIS Ticketing site improved as a result, although the continued demand meant that not everybody trying to access the site was able to."

Ulster Rugby and IRIS Ticketing would like to thank the football supporters for their patience and are confident the problem has been addressed.

The club said that it was working with its ticketing partner to ensure the problem doesn't recur.

"We envisage all future ticket purchasing will be fully accessible and that our platform will perform as successfully as it has done for all Ulster Rugby matches," it added.

A limited number of terrace tickets are being made available from Thursday, with details on Crusaders' website.

"For those who pre-paid you can have the alternative of terrace tickets or a full refund and must return to Crusaders Football Club to do so," a statement on the site read.

"This situation was out of control of Crusaders Football Club and we apologise for any inconvenience caused."

I agree with Brendan. Crusaders led fans to believe that Liverpool would be bring over a strong side. If it is going to be a reserve team it should have been advertised as such.

Crusaders should really tell the fans that it will be Rodolfo Borrell Reserve/Youth team that will be playing on the 14th. No 1st team players.
