Tyrone manager Mickey Harte has reiterated his objections to the 'mark' - one of the experimental rules which has been introduced into the McKenna Cup pre-season competition.

The Red Hands cruised to an emphatic 0-26 to 0-10 win over St Mary's at Healy Park in Omagh on Sunday.

"I don't see the need for the mark and it wasn't too prevalent in today's game anyway," said Harte.

"The few times there was a mark it wasn't even necessary because players weren't under pressure at the time.

"One of the other rules we were supposed to see implemented was that the ball had to go dead for the game to be finished but that act didn't take place at the end of either half.

"So there were a few little things in the new rules that weren't even applied. It's a question of learning as we go. I have no difficulty with a lot of the new rules.

"But I don't have any time for the mark - I don't think it's needed and I think it would change the face of our game if it was strictly adhered to."

Harte opted to field an experimental side against the students with only a few familiar faces although more were introduced in the second half.

Tyrone's victory was never in doubt from the moment man-of-the-match Kyle Coney opened the scoring after only 14 seconds.

Harte's team led 0-14 to 0-2 at half time with St Gall's star CJ McGourty sending over both St Mary's points from frees.

The students rallied briefly early in the second half when they scored four unanswered points, two of them coming from Antrim's Kevin Niblock.

But Tyrone ran out convincing winners, helped by a five point haul from Coney, and Harte's side will undoubtedly face a much stiffer task when they tackle cup holders Donegal in their next encounter.
