Harte is currently in the final year of his three-term season, but Tyrone Management offered him another three year term.
A statement from the Tyrone GAA County Board confirmed the decision was endorsed by the County Committee in Carrickmore on Tuesday night.
Mickey Harte said, "It is a great privilege to be asked by the County Committee to take charge of the Tyrone Senior Football team and I gladly accepted that offer.
"To be asked to manage the best players that your county has to offer is still a wonderful honour".
Mr Harte is the side's most successful senior manager ever, with three All-Ireland Senior Championships and five Dr McKenna Cup titles among the accolades amounted during his nine-year run as manager.
He had previously managed club Errigal Ciaran before taking up the post as senior manager in 2003.
